272 Waterpump questions

Hi guys

I have been looking on the waterpump science I took it of the engine and had a few questions?

What should the clearence between the impeller wings and the pumphousing be?

What is done on a rebuild pump? bearings and seals?

How to I get the pump appart? do I press the fan flange off the shaft or whats the procedure?

I know there are new and rebuilt one, but thats on the other side of the
pond.... I wanted to try rebuild this one...

Thanks

This video should help. It gave me the courage (stupidity?) to rebuild mine. Measure before disassembling and write everything down. The shop manual also has specs on engine mounting surface to pulley mounting hub distance. Measure first. Write it down.
Most kits come with a new impeller, bearing, and seal. Impeller to housing clearance is typically ~.030" but, measure and verify with the shop manual.

That one was great! That wasnt that hard?

Anyone know the specs for the distances? My pump cant be completley accurate as the waterpump pulle is slightly offset to the motor compared to the crank. So the belt is not vertical!

Just an FYI there are two different rebuild kits, Don't ask how I know. The seals are different and you ( or at least I) can't tell until you get them apart. It's easy to get apart but to just get the seal is hard to do. I ended up getting a rebuilt pump at my local parts store but I believe rockauto has them too.

Then on the other hand $60 isn´t that much for a rebuild pump, but I am kind of into this for the renovation part aswell, not only swapping parts....

Not sure about why one says discontinued unless they carried both sizes and now they don't. I got my kit from them but like I said before I didn't know there was a difference. I'd suggest pressing the pump shaft out and measuring it, then calling MACs to be sure you get the right one. The video above shows how to disassemble the pump.
