94 w/ 300str 6
i have a 94 f150 w/ 300 straight 6. i drove the truck to the store, it ran fine. i hsut the truck off went in got food came back out and the truck would not start. im gettin spark, fuel pump is working, and i can smell gas. but here is where im stuck i dont know if its getting too much fuel or not enough. i pulled several spark plugs and they were dry so i dont think its flooding itself out. now my question... could this problem be caused by a bad fuel pressure regulator, or could i have a bad ECM. i am trying to figure out what could be causing my problem before i go sinking money into it that i dont have. any ideas gentlemen???

Well, if you suspect the PCM is gone, you could try getting off the codes. A dead PCM either won't read or will seen a huge list of codes. Did you feel anything strange before the no start condition?. A bad FPR is a posibility but I wouldn't point at it yet, there are many causes for this:
- A bad coil.
- A broken distributor.
- A plugged fuel filter.
- A broken fuel pump.
- An empty fuel tank (it has happened...)
I really have no idea atm of what could be wrong with you truck, so I'm just sharing the usual causes, what does it do when you try to start the engine?.

well i was just looking into several things considering the pcm. fuel pump cycles like it should. but i also noticed that my check engine light is not coming on. as far as checking for spark i cant the truck has sat for a year i used to driver tractor trailer and recently came off the road and am finally getting around to trying to fix the truck, more or less it was my play toy. any way the block is locked up atm so i am now trying to get it to free up using the usual filling the cylinders with pb plaster. (going to rebuild in the spring anyway).

????????????????? 1st post you said it died while getting food, 2nd post you say the engine is locked up after sitting a year? Did this all happen a year ago?
If it sat a year, the fuel is bad for sure, got to get rid of that before starting the engine after its freed up.

we need more consistent info to help with diagnosis.

yes it happened about a year ago. i had spark, fuel, and all the good things when this happened. it has sat for a year and am currently getting the motor "thawed" out. lol. i put a new battery in it to test ecm and other's to make sure they are working properly, i havent found anything wrong in the aspect of the control modules. when i parked the truck behind my shed i pulled the fuel pump and blew out all lines so i didnt end up with bad fuel in the lines so i have that covered. i am still trying to figure out what would be the case of running just fine to wont start at all.

I had the same issue. All the tards on here told me PCM or MAP. I had a ****ty distributor whos cap would expand when the engine got hot and then allowed to sit (IE, shutting down for a half hour or so)... I'd get a ****ty spark at best until eventually I'd manage to start my engine, flood the **** out of it and get it going down the road.
Took over a year to figure out that problem, so I'd say distributor. Problem was almost impossible to replicate for any mechanic. That distributor eventually totally failed me, left me stranded in my drive way. Got a NEW distributor (overhauled ones suck, I ate like 3 of those in a span of 2 years) and the problem was solved. Still have yet to have any problems out of the truck years later. Sold it to my friend and he drives it to work almost every day, no problems.
