C6 slipping and transfer case question
76 f150 360 4x4 auto
Earlier this week my transmission started slipping when leaving the light.
once its in second it drives fine. Fluid level is fine, fluid looks ok. Just switched to 35"s, at one point at about 5 mph the tranny made a quick grinding noise.
so my question, could the transfer case cause a slipping feel? or is it definitely the tranny?
Should i have the tranny shop do the whole job or am i being lazy and i should take it out on my own?
I know absolutely nothing about transmissions, but could remove and install one.
any help is appreciated

Have you ever done a fluid and filter change on the transmission itself?
Have you pulled the vacuum line off the modulator (on the side of the transmission) and seen if there is any fluid in there? There should not be any...in either.
A trans slipping issue in 2wd is usually the transmission, and 4x4 issues then suspect the xfer case. But at least pull the top plug on rear of xfer case and ck the fluid level.
The trans shop will probably charge you and arm and a leg and a few fingers, but you should get a guarantee if they do it all. If you pull and drop off for a rebuild and then do the reinstall they might NOT guarantee as much, since the install done wrong is a great way to burn up a new one.
