Okay. I suspected the window regulator. I bought a known good unit off of ebay. I plan to install it this weekend. Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is the window runner?

The rubber gasket that is in the slit of the back side of the vent window channel. Commonly called a division bar, order a new one.
CAREFULLY remove the door panel, use a acid brush and grease the bottom trac arm where the plastic wheel is (ck for it to be cracked/broken).
Behind where the window crank handle mounts is the regulator (coiled looking thing) spay some lube in there.
The old OEM regulator is probably riveted in the door frame, if you feel the need to replace it after lubing the old one, drill out the rivets, replace regulator and bolt back in place.

I guess it doesn't matter now since you already bought it, but there's really no need to replace the regulator (which is a pain since you'd have to drill out the rivets). The only things that wear out are the channel bearing (replaceable with the regulator in place) or the gear (which doesn't lead to resistance - just skipping). Most likely you can just pull your door panel off, put some white lithium grease in the regulator channel and be done.

262A32 in pic: C8SZ-57262A32-A .. Nylon Window Roller: 1973/74 F100/350 front doors & 1973/79 F250/350 Crew Cab rear doors.
1975/79 F100/350 front doors use a different nylon window roller: D6AZ-5323240-A
When either of these rollers break, the window falls down into the door or binds up.

My '77 F-150 has the opposite problem: the window rolls down smooth and easy. Going up takes several minutes of patience. I've checked everything and lubed all the correct spots. The gear doesn't look worn, but I'm guessing something is out of alignment.
When I try to roll the window up, from *any* point, it turns about 1/20th of a turn, then binds up tight. When I ease up on it, and slowly try again, I get another 1/20th of a turn. Repeat over and over again, and you get the window up just fine. I haven't wanted to try to force it, in case it breaks.
Any thoughts?

Dragging up an old thread with new info. My 1972 F100 rolls up easy down is horrible. I have the mechanism out of the door. stull very hard to roll down. Greasing and oiling everything. I suspect the spring has rusted and is resisting. I suppose the bearing in the actuator could be bad but only in one direction?
