brake light problems

when the head lights are on the brake lights are on when the head lights are off the brake lights are off..... any suggestions?

have you ever checked your brakelight switch?

...just an idea

brake light problems

cheek for broken element in dule element bulb if a break element breaks and rest agenst the running light element it will light them all.

Jens...

Where is the brake switch I saw what looked like a spring loaded switch attached to the pedal is that it and if so how do you check/ fix it

bobcf.....

fyi the bulbs are new, thanks for the info tho

bobcf,

you can check the switch by using a Test Light. With the ignition switch to "ign." check which wire delivers 12 Volts to the brake light switch. Connect the Test Light to the other (not 12 V) wire and to ground. Press the brake pedal...the light must be on.
If the brake light switch is OK .....hm.....another possibility is that you have a defective Hazard Switch

If nothing helps you should get an wiring diagram. You'll find such diagrams e.g. in the Chilton Repair manuals (Part No 8576 for 1976 to 86 Pick us and Broncos.)
