Love this thread.
Its amazing how much enthusiasm and cooperation you get when you buy each son a Coe and pay for all the materials. They are good students and much better than i was at their age. A foot in the butt is in reserve if all else fails.

The battle goes on.

Some how i ended up missing a Coe passenger fender from my 51. It was already finished so i hope it will turn up. I had a spare so we went to work on it even before blasting. Since this one was my spare it wasn't in as good a shape as the other. I am not sure if 48 Coe fenders are the same as 51 but i have those done also. This fender was rotted the complete end off at the running board side so we had to create it from scratch.

More work to do on this one.

replaced the whole bottom using the other side as a model.

Looks like we will be cutting out that middle section too to replace

ahhh finished one corner now on to the next..

Those repairs look great. I need to repair both of my running boards. What type and gauge material are you using?
Thanks for keeping us updated. I love seeing the old Ford trucks getting put back to like new condition.

Same fitment and application rules apply to COE as conventional. 48-50 are their own fenders from 51-2, and vice-versa.

Ken I use 18 gauge for body and 16 gauge for floor and running boards brackets and such.

On the other F series the upper is the same just the lower different. Is the Coes just like that or is upper different on 48-50 as 51-52.

No, on the conventional trucks, the uppers and lowers are unique to the 48-50 and 51-2. There is no interchange between the two styles. Even the inner fenders are different and don't interchange. COE fenders are just the same. The grille opening is wider on the 51-2's so the fenders have a totally different shape in the front.

Wow, knew that but never really stopped and thought about it. I just used this as an explanation to my 12 year old son as an automotive /industrial design indication of American/ World History; WWII, resuming post-war consumer production, and how design followed from production of war tools, back to consumer goods.

Still making progress

We have been making progress despite all of life's interruptions. I decided to close in the gas tank filler hole and use an exterior tank.It has been metal repair until now and i need to move off the cab and start doing other things.

Closed in the gas filler hole.

Trying to get those minor imperfections done and sand for primer.

Tore out the cab corner fix and dod it better. I dont want to see a mistake with shiny paint on it.

My sons are really quick to cut and crop metal these days.I cant wait to primer all our parts and the cab.

Seems like we been repairing metal and not much else.

Since this thread is just about the Coe I will save the F1 jobs for their thead. The Coe has had more than its share of rotted metal but since the purpose of the trucks are to build skills it's good we have so much.

Making metal where there was none.

Since its just a little home garage some of the tools arent the best. So gonna have to fab the roll by hand.

Tough going on some of the pieces we have nothing to go by. Just pics and my fenders from a different year.

Making Progress and we all are learning a few things.

The fabrication continues

Made some new pieces for the old fender.

New bottom now its good metal.maybe i should of weighed the truck before and after.

So many small places like this .

The edge is gone sometimes planning the new metal takes as much time as making it.

Looking at it backwards

Hind sight is 20 20 so looking back I know a truck in good condition just needing a few repairs would of been great for most others but for my sons I think the impossibly of getting these trucks going is the
Motivation. So many places we have to mirror image the other side to finish a rotted off end. My sons have graduated to do this on their own.
