Ranger 2.5L for a a 2.3L?
I have a 1992 Ranger 4x2 stick shift with the 2.3L engine. With high miles the engine is using some oil, has some intermittent ignition problems, and may have a very small leak in the head gasket. A nearby salvage yard has a 2.5L from a 2000 Ranger that sounds reasonable. I was wondering if I could use the 2.5L to replace my old 2.3L? I would really only want to use the block and head if possible. I have read the ignition control was moved off the engine to the computer in the 2000, but would it function correctly if I use the DIS from the 92? Do I need to use the CPS on the 2.5L? Any other possible prohibitive differences? Lots of questions I know but I am just looking for a cheap and easy way to get a better running engine and maybe gain a small increase in horsepower.

I think you may get a better response if you go to a website called "The Ranger Station" http://www.therangerstation.com/
This site is all about the Ford Ranger.
