Payload ? F-350 6.7 Diesel

I own a 2011 F-350 Lariat 3.55 rear end FX4 pkg CC w. the 6.7 We are looking to buy a Columbus fifth wheel uvw. 10,600 w. a pin wt around 2500lbs once loaded. Now my problem, On the door it states front axel gawr 5600lbs rear axel 7000 Gvwr 10,000lbs. Tires are 20inch rated for 3750 each. but the payload reads only 1917 lbs cargo and occupants. That seems really low to me. Someone mentioned to me not to worry about it that they put that sticker on for tax & insurance purposes and that I have plenty of truck. I would just like to ask the experts out there about this. Maybe I should have posted this in the towing forum. Thanks Craig

You truck will tow it fine, but you will be over weight according to the sticker. Your F350 is the same truck as an F250 with camper package.

I think it depends on your state and your registration, but some may go off the sticker too.

FYI - a standard truck out of the factory has a GVWR around 11,00-11,500 - same configuration as yours. There is an "option" when the truck is ordered (another check box) that will drop that to 10,000lbs for registration purposes. That is a typical line between non-commercial and commercial, or a standard vehicle and flat weight, depending on how the state terms it. Some set the break at 8,000, so if you're one of those it doesn't matter quite the same because you're already over with an empty truck.

You have one of those unfortunately neutered F350s. The 10,000 GVWR is an option on the 350 for registration purposes as some states charge extremely high rates for anything over 10,000 lbs and some begin to consider you a commercial vehicle if over 10k. There is nothing different from your truck compared to mine which is rated at 11,500 other than the sticker. Well I guess maybe you have a short bed which would actually give you 100-200 lbs more payload than me. I wouldn't blink at 2500 lbs pin weight. My current toy hauler has a pin weight of close to 3200 lbs with a total weight of around 16,000 lbs. Overall, I am under the RAWR by several hundred pounds, but I am over the GVWR by a few hundred. The truck handles the trailer like a dream.

2500 lbs seems like a lot of pin weight for a trailer that is less than 11,000 lbs total. Either way, 11,000 lbs is nothing for these trucks and 2500 pin weight is within the capabilities of the truck. I'm not sure how it works in Michigan, but will they allow you to register your truck for a higher weight than the 10k sticker? That would ultimately be more important than the sticker on the door.

Go off of the gross for the proposed trailer. Dry weight plus all food, water etc.

Then take 20% of that figure for what you can expect for king pin wt. King pin wt is payload against the truck.

Personally as long as you stay within your axle ratings and tire rating then you are good.

What is typed on the sticker is the legal maximum weight rating, it cannot be increased. If stopped by DOT they will ask you to open your door and they will look at the sticker on the door jamb. Then they will look at your registration to make sure you are registered at the proper weight rating. Sometimes people try to cheat and register a 14,000 lb truck down to 10,000 to save money, that would be a bad idea. Now having said all this you most likely will never get pulled over towing your RV, tow it safely and have fun.
