MTP, do you have the original rear leaf springs installed under the rear end? Can you tell me how many leafs you have in each side not counting any overloads? I have a 56 250 and Im trying to figure out if it has the original rear leaf springs under it. I can jump up and down on the frame and there is no give. Im wondering of the previous owner put some bigger springs under it. Seems like it might ride like a lumber wagon with the way its sprung now.

Outlaw, they are the original leaf springs. There are nine total. The light duty if my memory serves me correctly. I believe the medium duty was 11 leaves (same thickness leaves as light duty), and the heavy duty option had nine much thicker leaves.

Interesting. I was just quoting what my shop manual said about F250 springs

Clinton, is yours a 56 F-250? I have the Mid Fifty 2014 Catalog and have not found where they have a breakdown for springs. I have never came across a spring pack with only six leafs in any of my research. That does not mean its not correct, it just means I have not found it. You should have a pretty nice ride with six, huh?

Mines a 54, but has stock rear suspension, and I can't get it to give any either. I've driven it around town a couple times, without a box, and it rides quite roughly. I'm assuming with the box on, it will soften up a little, but probably still pretty rough. Just my 2 cents

I had a 58 short box that I drove without a box for a short time and when I put the box on it, it actually did make a considerable difference.

I am very much hoping this will be the case. Thanks for your input.

I ordered steel for my flatbed project today. I payed $371.88 for all of it. I think that's a smokin deal.

I was able to get a great deal on the steel because of a student discount the company offers to our local FFA chapter.

Nice work! I am planning to do a similar swap into my 56. I have already bought a driving/running 96 F150 w/ a 300 6 and 5 speed. I plan to use all the fuel injection on mine as I have it all. I may reconsider that if it becomes insurmountable. How did you mount the engine/transmission? Thanks, Greg.

I used a prefabricated crossmember for the engine and fabricated my own transmission crossmember. The crossmember that is sold for mounting the ford big block FE series v8s will work for the six with the right engine mounts
