a friend of mine has an SCT tuner and his truck messed up and he said he would give it to me. I was wondering if anyone here would know if it would work as it is now or if i would have to get it reprogramed. The truck it was bought for was an 08 Ford F-150 with the 5.4 and my truck is an 02 F-250 with the 5.4. Any help would be appreatated

 

What is the model number of the unit? I would cross reference it to see if it will work.

 

I would imagine that it would be able to load tunes for both vehicles, but you would need to get different tunes for your vehicle.

 

I have a similar question. A mate gave me his 1705 Max micro tuner as he sold his truck a while back.
I've read in the paperwork accompanying the tuner stating the unit can be "Vin locked". I have plugged this unit in, as per instructions and nothing ! So the question is, what now?

 

Define "nothing". Nothing shows up on the screen, no instructions as to either load, unload, or a msg that shows that it's vin locked?

If he didn't return his truck to stock, there is very much a chance that it is vin locked to his old truck. You have a couple of options. 1. Pay the company to unlock the device. 2. Use it as a code reader only or 3. Toss it and buy a new one.

 

Nothing means nothing as if it was not even plugged in! Superchips reps in Australia doesn't touch that model, the ford dealer that sold it to my mate a few years back doesn't want know about it either! I'm waiting for a response from the parent company to respond. Don't really want to spend a $1k for a new one
I'll have to contact the original owner to see if the truck was still set up with the settings when he sold it.

 

Only thing you can do is check to see if the fuse is blown to the OBD-II port. If it is, then that's a simple fix, if not, then you have a paper weight, if Superchips won't do anything for you over there.

Ford dealer really shouldn't have sold it to your mate to begin with as that would null and void the factory warranty on it from the get go. Probably why they don't want anything to do with it now.

 

Had a good response from Scott the Superchip man on this site, with the most probable reason for the unit not working. Apparently it is reliant on power from the 12 volt outlet (cigarette lighter) Believe it or not, I have 2 in the dash and neither is working . Looks like that'll be the next item to repair

 

Like I said, blown fuse. The OBD-II port is reliant on the same fuse as the ciggy outlets.

Technically, I think you only have one that's setup as a true ciggy port and the other is a direct feed to the battery even when the vehicle is off.

They both use the same fuse. It's location is in the manual.

Well, based on your profile that shows a 2001 truck, I would go through this site to the respective sub forum for your year/model/engine and ask in there, if someone could send you a diagram of where to look.

Or, try google (either their regular search or image search) and see what that shows up. I have a 2006 with significantly more electronics, so I doubt my diagram would work in this case.

Found the manual, (we call it a handbook outside the USA) to see where the fuse is. Slot # 3, the fuse won't stay in There isn't anything hooked up in the fuse panel, unbelievable! Why would this vehicle have a different wiring system than every other F250! I could do a Wally Binghampton (McHales' Navy) !!

 

I have power to one of the 12 volt outlets but no fuse in the fuse block. This vehicle was exported as an "incomplete vehicle" so an ID plate says on the door frame.
The question is, where the tuner/chip devise plugs into, (which I have the connection under the dash) which wire can I hook power to or hotwire, to power up the Max Micro Superchip 1705, so I can set up the "tow" mode? This is the main purpose for use of this vehicle.
