New Guy 7.3L turbo diesel, anybody else?

New Guy 7.3L turbo diesel, anybody else?

looking for any other 7.3L owners in the southern Ontario area to exchange tips and info, parts sourcing and good mechanics etc....

I live in Hamilton, work in Woodbridge and I pick up scrap cars in all places in between.

I work out of a mechanic's shop in Woodbridge and he is a diesel mechanic. Specializing in VW's and Ford trucks (worked at a Ford dealership)

We have a client that works at the parts counter at a local Ford dealer and will be approaching him about whatever help he can offer.

I also have a source for very good used tires. I just have to give him a list and he can check his stock. Pairs are more common, four matching is a little harder to get and can take some time, but for the price worth the wait.

Post up what you guys can come up with.

thanks.

Welcome to FTE tkeyla67.

I'm in K-W area and just bought my first (and hopefully last) 7.3 diesel. Decription in signature below. (why not add a signature to yours too)

I posted a similar request ... I'm not sure there are too many 7.3 owners around these SW ON parts oe they are not part of this FTE group.

I'm just busy reading on the diesel forum and slowly gathering information about these vehicles. Glad to compare notes if. when the time comes. ~ bugjr ~

thanks for the welcome, I'm looking at a 1994 brown 2 tone f 250, ext cab, long box pretty sure its the first gen power stroke). it'll be my first diesel, and also my first "real" truck (my last 3 were 87 ranger, 89 ranger and i now drive a 08 ranger). once the "new" one is on the road, ill probably sell the 08 though. while I'm typing, could you guys tell me what is involved in the e test for a pre 98 diesel, I'm being told by not so reliable sources its just a check for visible smoke out the tailpipe, but have yet to confirm that. i may take a run down to the local ct and see what they say. I'm from essex, basically keep driving south till you hit lake erie.

I know the Essex area pretty well. We sometimes go riding down along Lake Erie anywhere from Point Pelee to Amherstburg. Pretty sure the truck you're looking at is a non-turbo IDI 7.3 diesel. Others can chime in to confirm this.

For my 2001 diesel truck, the e-test was just a visual look-see at the tailpipe for 5 minutes. There is also a factory label affixed to it that reads "Non-Catalytic". I bet if you go to the Ontario Drive Clean website it will probably confirm the e-test procedure for your vehicle. Good luck with the purchase process.

thanks, I've tried that and i didn't really understand the lawyer/government talk they used. ill probably just stop by a shop. as far as the engine, the guy says its a turbocharged 7.3, I've read up and to my understanding, that means this would be a 1994.5 with a power stroke. i also could have misinterpreted the info i found on here, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I'm going for a look see tomorrow, so the more i know before then…..

Yes 94 was the first year for the turbo so it could be either way. Even if it is IDI a lot of guys throw a turbo at it still so you have to be careful between factory and aftermarket.
