Have you tried pulling the cab? I haven't done a 5.0 yet but on the 04+ I find pulling the cab saves time and a lot of stooping over the fenders.

Why does it do that? What was causing the knock?

No that was the other posters truck burned oil, this one had only a noise issue.

Cylinder Bore distortion Ford is calling it, I believe it had to be something to do with it being a sleeved engine and the alloy mixture of the sleeve. The 5.0l also had a issue where the sleeve would be loose in the block, right there that is an issue with a transfer of heat by itself plus the noise it caused.

I have never pulled a cab on an f150 never found the need, now the 6.4l I pull the cab almost every time for anything major.

Even so you have 60k miles to figure it out and even if you go over that mileage within 5 years of your model year Ford will help out with the cost as a Goodwill they call it where they do cost sharing with the dealer. Ford is very good about that from the cases I have seen at my dealer.

My uncle had a 02 Harley Davidson F150 that around 80K started having issues w/noise coming from the engine that hadn't been there before. I don't remember the details of the situation, but I remember the dealership replacing his engine at no cost. That was the first Ford he had ever purchased and has purchased nothing but Ford since for him and my aunt.
