How long have you run on a leaking slave cylinder?
OK, my slave cylinder is leaking. '96 F150, 4.9L, 4X4. I found out when the clutch went out because low/no fluid let air in the lines. I bled the line as follows:
Removed the cap and liner. Filled master cylinder and used a vacuum pump to draw fluid out of the bleeder valve. Once the flow was strong, I closed the bleeder valve and repeatedly pumped the clutch 10X (five or six cycles). Reinstalled the liner and cap. Had my son hold the clutch pedal down and burped the bleeder. Worked great and now back on the road.
How long can I expect this to last if I keep an eye on the clutch fluid? I'm interested in hearing from others.
Thanks in advance. It is way too cold and nasty to pull the trans out on the street and replace the slave cylinder until spring. Do you think I'll make it?
