Man you guys do nice work! The COE is a in your face kind of truck, really stands out. A 56 F800 Big Job still lingers in my mind as a project to make into a big pick up?

Thanks Brian, I had that offset tucked away in my favorites just in case I needed it in the future, and I think the future may have arrived!

Once I get the pedals set up, I will know for sure. I have no problem accelerating with the left and braking with the right foot. When you are over 70 it is easier. I think that is the way when I took driver's training, but could be a touch of dementia added in.

Hi Brian:
Not a lot to report in the last few weeks. just trying to get some of my other vehicles ready for summer and the Woodard Dream Cruise. My Model A rat rod needed attention on the deck lid with a gas spring for raising and lowering since I don't like the original hinge set up, so an engineer friend calculated the angles and dimensions, and a new lifting gas strut is on its way.

I wlll get back on the Coe soon!

Well, finally back at my place, after a long hiatus at my welder friends shop. Got the homemade box mounted like many of the other coe pickups I have seen, but it may be sitting too high for my taste.
The top of almost all the boxes I have looked at are even with the doorhandle. I dropped this one 2", but it still looks way high. I am going to wait until I put on my new 19.5 rims and tires,and running boards, and see where the fenders fit on it before lowering it.

At least the interior is painted so I can start with the Dynamat and install the seat, glass, and everything else inside.

Really great to see someone's making progress...

I think you'll want to drop the bed box a bit lower... I don't think you'll be happy with the height of the bed sidewall the way it is...

I've seen them in many configurations... Not that any one is better than another... but here's a pic of mine from a few angles... at various stages... My bed cross-members are about 6" off the original COE straight frame....













You can see the stands we made ... the original F1 cross-members are slightly angled in front and back of the rear axle... the F1 frames were humped over the axle area... and the cross-members were angled to accommodate the arch.

 

Thanks Brian: The top rail of your box appears to be somewhere around 6" below the door handle. As soon as I get the new wheels and tires mounted, I can place the fenders and then figure out where I need to be.

I also made my bedside taller.

 

Good picture. I fabricated the bedside to the standard height for a 9 footer. I can bend up some skirts to take up the distance from frame, plus lower the bed so it looks more proportionate. After tires and wheels, the fenders will tell most of the story.
