rough Idle and vibration in steering wheel

hello I have been having this problem with Gf's car for a few months it is a 06 3.0 escape with 141K on the clock the car seems to run ok except at red lights and when in drive it seems to idle like its just about 100 rpms low when I give it a little gas just a touch it smooth's out. if I put it in neutral the car smooth's out but in drive when you come to a stop light or stop sign you can feel the rough or low idle in the steering wheel. She is nagging me and it has been very cold here in Pa and I'm trying to wrap my head around if it is a cold thing or just a coincidence. I'm fairly good at wrenching and I just need some things to look for as when you start the car up cold it idles fast like 12 to 1300 rpms and then drops to about 900 and in drive it seems like maybe it's about 600 to 700 rpms. but I'm needing some advice where to start to look Is it a sensor, vacuum leak ? anyone else have this problem and what was the solution. Thanks for any help in advance.

750 +- 50 I believe is normal.

Does it feel like it is running rough or could it be worn motor mounts?
Running rough could be old plugs, air filer, fuel filter or a combination of these.

plugs were new at 100k,fuel filter is good ,air filter is good. Now that you mention it could it be the mounts? as in warm weather there is more give and in cold weather they are stiffer, or at 141 they might just be worn out has anyone else changed mounts at this mileage on the clock?

what are obvious signs of motor mount failure ,how to diagnose them?????? and how many are there? and is it a easy or tough repair as from what I'm seeing they are not really cheap and I do not want to just throw parts at it and hope and pray...........

I haven't replace mine yet and not sure how to diagnose them.
I know on my last vehicle the engine would rock a lot and it was because the front and rear were shot.

Don't know what years this covers but I remember somebody noticed a leak of sorts. Come to find out that some are liquid filled.

well I will say this that the vibration is really dependent on the outside temp, the colder it is the more it vibrates and runs rough, the warmer the less vibration and it idles a lot better, now what could that be a sensor????
