I keep saying they should have dropped the 6.2 and instead built an EB 5.0. Offer it in the SDs and as an up-model or SVT option in the F150. I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I'm probably looking at a new truck in the 16 MY, and I hope Roush has a TVS kit out for the 5.0 by then

I would think that you really can't tweak much more from the Eco-3.5 without sacrifycing reliability. It is spun up pretty much as it is! Heck we haven't even seen a 200K-300K real world Eco yet so we don't know about its long term reliability?

At breakfast I sit next to an Old Timer with a 2006 F-150 King Ranch 5.4 3v with over 230K miles & running strong! He says the truck might outlast him! He's in his 70's! I tell him the longer you & your truck run the happier I am!

Pickup trucks.com reports that the eco boost already makes 385 hp and 430 torque on premium fuel. Apparently that's from Ford.

I would be willing to bet that if the SD trucks were to get an Ecoboost engine it would be a stronger maybe more powerful 3.5 or some variant of that engine. There's really no reason that I can see to boost the 5.0 or the 6.2. The whole concept of the ecoboost design is after all the best combination of power, efficiency, capability, and reliability. My opinion is that the 3.5 does this. I know many disagree as a result of the CAC issue, but I'd like to see the actual stats regarding this issue. Mean jus how many of the trucks sold with this engine suffer with this issue. Instead of the misconstrued numbers that we see on the net and even on this very site.

On searches of the 2 engines. Other than liking the ecoboost because it is cool, I have yet to find an article that gives a financial or longevity reason to go for the ecoboost. For power sure, but how often does anyone ever use even 50% of an engines power? It is not my opinion, this is what I find In my searches.

Was talking to a ford mechanic who said the 5.0 block is already set up for a Eco boost, who knows, he might have just talking gibberish though.
I kind of remember reading a report that ford was developing a 5.0 ecoboost for the mustang a few months ago when all the speculation about the new mustang was coming out.

That's would be awesome if they made one, even 500ish ft/lb, 20 mpg empty. It would be a hit in the SD! I hope we will see a bigger EB soon. Especially if ford is fazing out the 6.2.

5.0 ecoboost would be too powerful in the 150. Everything in the drive train would need to be strengthened, or the power would need to be held back.
Since GM pussied out on having a power war, I don't think Ford deems in necessary.
How much power is the 5.0 capable of containing reliably?

Toyota must be working on something in secret. I mean they can't possibly run that 5.7L, i -force forever in their Tundra, barely getting just 15 ish mpg.

It's funny you say this, GM has always produced a very stout V8 option, but two things. 1) They always pair it with some rediculously pkg or trim, nobody ever buys like (remember the SS truck) or 2) They build a serious powerhouse, then torq manage the snot out of it until it feels like it's barely anything more than their 5.3 etc.. Biggest bait & switch move ever .

It'll be interesting to see if they outsource it like every except Ford or build it in house like Ford and then brag about it.

Anyway, I'm a huge Tundra fan so I'm excited.

They are gonna have to use something way bigger than a 3.5 Ecoboost! The SD trucks are way too heavy to begin with!

used to be able to get a super duty with the 5.4L V8. the 3.5L ecoboost beats that engine in torque and HP. No reason it wouldn't be perfectly fine in the super duty even in it's current form. If they can squeeze a little more out, that'll help, but it's plenty strong as-is.
