??? Radio Station shutting Truck off ? Must read.. Help
you guys propably think im getting crazy, but here is what i have:
Part 1:
about 3 month ago, i installed a used cb radio in my truck. i turned it on and while driving down the road, i presses the mike, and my engine shut off... tried it several times, same thing.
replaced the CB, and the Antenna cable with another unit, some thing happens.. so currently antenna cable is connected to cb, but no outside antenna, nor any mike hooked up, and the cb off.
Part 2:
i was driving at lunch down the road to a shop to order some parts, once i turned down the road towards that shop, the engine started to sputter and shut off.. no cel. Truck started right up, and started to run better after a few hundred feet down the road.
coming back from that shop, same thing happened again and truck shut of at exact same place..
though coincident and mybe my cps goes out..
have not done anything thereafter, truck runs fine for 3 weeks.
Part 3
yesterday drove at lunch back towards that shop, .. and guess what.. same thing happend at exactly same spot.. engine sputters and shut off.., coming back from that shop, engine does the same thing at exact same spot..
Now i did noticed, that at the spot where my truck shuts down is a radio station wit big sattelite antennas sitting in ther yard..
does any of you guys had a simular incident ?
and NO , i did not see any little green man at that place..
The bad thing is, i can drive there again and it will happen again.. what would cause this ?
BTW this is for real and not a joke

Have you done any work on the UVCH wiring? Those outside harnesses have some RFI shielding, and I ***THINK*** the shielding is supposed to be grounded as well. I wonder if some aftermarket harnesses with less-than-stellar reputation (Dorman) might not be providing the necessary shielding.

i had the same problem with my mack dump truck. key up the CB and the engine would shut off.
took me a few days to realize i was pushing too much power. cut it back from 400 watts to 250 watts and all the lights on the dash would light up, engine would flutter, but it would stay running. cut it back to 150 watts and all was well again. the high power of the radio was freaking out the trucks computer and shutting it down. .

Yup, that's what I meant (guess I should've just said "aluminum foil" or something to that effect...). Just spitballing, but I imagine any damage to that shielding could allow stuff like this to happen.

I used the tape air duct guys and insulation installers use to seal joints and what not sticky and very durable, hopefully it reflects radio waves
