Tacson,
I visited your gallery and you've got a nice truck goin' there. I'm also going the 5.0L w/AOD in 54 Panel. I was wondering what you are using for a fuel pump for you EFI? Apparently, you didn't go with the in tank pump so I'm what you used for an inline pump. I got one from NAPA but I'm not ready to start it yet. Also where did you put the computer.

Thanks

1/2 Ton,

Thanks for the compliments and best wishes as you proceed on your 54'. Where are you getting your Motor and AOD from? The pump that I am using is off a 87 F-150. Mid 80's to Early 90's I believe, don't quote me, Ford trucks had a Frame mounted pump. Right now it is looking like the computer will end up in the right kick panel because I have OLD AIR Heating and Air unit that I bought used at Pigeon Forge Nationals in 2002 that is going underneath in stock heater location. Let me know if I can be of any further help. I am always glad to help out or at least tell you what I know. Thanks again.

Tacson,
My donor car is an '89 Crown Vic with a 5.0L and AOD. I'm using the original Panel gas tank which was in good shape. I'm using a frame mounted inline pump and my fuel return line attaches to the filler pipe. I'm a little concerned about my fuel tank pickup which is somewhat smaller than the input to the high pressure fuel pump but I think that it will be ok. I'd have to do some serious work on the tank to change it.

Hey tacson, very clean install! Not to hijack the thread( although I think its already been done), do you plan to use any of those t-bird clounms in your truck? Those are from the 61-66(?) t-birds right? -4speed

4 Speed,

Thanks, no the columns a re the 67-69 models. They do not exactly bolt right up to a "Front" steer. Now had I used a 67- 79 Ford Clip like a 69-71 Tbird or 72-79 Mid size like Torino, Elite, or 77--79 Bird or Cougar it would have worked and been Sweet. I went to a 84 Ford Van Tilt. My friend Kenny Frye of Robbins, North Carolina cut off the factory ignition switch and took out all the column lock mechanisms and I am using it because it has the factory OD on the column. I normally trade with those Tilt Swingaways. There is a guy in East Tennessee who I trade other F100 parts for the columns. He also deals in 53-56's stock or modified. This is the same guy who I am going to be trading fenders with so I can get a regular fender in lieu of having that spare mount fender. I am off to the junkyard now to look for a spare tire out of a 84-86 Lincoln Continental. It is big enough not to look odd when in use yet small enough to sit behind the seat in the cab of my 55'. Thanks again

The Chevy van and Maverick gas tanks, is there any problem with the filler neck being too low? For example, the previous owner of my truck installed the tank in the rear, however, when they installed it, the filler neck sits lower than the top of the tank so it only fills up about 3/4's and then drenches you shoes in that sweet smelling cologne. Anyway, would I be smarter to adjust mine or try to do a swap? Thanks.

I maybe wrong but wasn't it more of a problem of the tank being made of fiberglass and not rear mounted? I know there are current law suits against Ford now about the Crown Vicky due to rear end collisions and gas tank explosions. And didn't one of the C***y trucks some years ago have problems with the side mount tank? You know the one NBC rigged up so it would explode during impact. Geeze!

Anyway it seems to me arguments can be made against where ever the tank is. Mine got move out of the cab for the sole purpose of space. And since I am beginning to think it will never leave the garage saftey isn't an issue.

Rick

Tacson
Thanks for the pics.
I see the filler neck is pointed towards the front, is this due to the design of the tank or dd you position it this way?

Thanks

The filler neck is pointed that way for now so that the tank can be filled thru right under the fender. I am doing that until I can get a regular fender and install a Hagan's door.

The width if I can recall is like 28 1/2 to 28 3/4. A 77-80 Model Chevy/GMC Van with the small 21 gallon tank.
