New 6.0 owner needs wiring help...Found strange wiring hook up in fuse box.
So I recently acquired a 2005 6.0 Powerstroke with 118k on the clock. Nice truck I'm learning probably has more than just the obvious quirks I'm seeing.
I took a look at the fuse panel today to see if I could figure out why the fog lights aren't working. Before you ask, yes the truck is running or have had the key on, headlights on and switch pulled to activate the fog lights. The indicator light comes on, but no fogs. I will confirm with a volt meter tomorrow, but both bulbs appear good, new actually, and that no power is actually making it to the fogs. I opened the fuse panel and checked 43...it is good. Is there a relay between the fuse box and fogs? Where?
Actually, the main reason I started this thread is there is a wire loom (looks factory) that comes in where the steering shaft goes through the firewall, one end appears to go up behind the dash where the hvac controls are, the other end terminates into a white plug that goes to nothing....I can't find where it would possibly plug into. The even more strange thing is a brown wire coming from this loom someone has stuck in the front side of the fuse panel at fuse 23 which I understand is the hvac controls. I think the brown wire is the ac signal as when I unhook it from the fuse panel I get no compressor cycling. Can anyone confirm? Is there a better way to hook this wire up, preferabbly the factory rout as the fuse panel cover kinks the wire when installed.
Other issues include a random NO CRANK after the truck is warm and shut off for a short trip ( stopping for gas/beer). Come out turn the key, truck goes through it's normal start up cycle, then when you go to crank after the GP light goes out. Nothing, no clicking like a dead battery, no cranking, nada. Give it 10 minutes and it fires right up.

The High Beam Headlights will Cut off Fog Lights
There is a MOD for this^^ IDK if some attempted and failed or what
Going to Help if you could Post some Pics
Is there any Alarm on truck???
Sean probably has a specific wire diagram you could Use
And when it qwont start have you tried to wiggle wires around to see if that will change its mind

No alarm I can see. I'll search for the hi beam mod to see if someone tried that route and botched it. Honestly it was a quick troubleshoot while the truck was warming up today. Def want to verify no voltage at the fog light sockets tomorrow, but I did pull the bulbs and they look brand new.
I took a few pics of the random brown wire hooked up to fuse 23 I'll host and link to shortly.
Thanks for the response!

That fog light relay your looking for is built in to the Central Junction Box. It is not serviceable or even accessible, unless you cut it apart. The relay is generally not a weak link. Make sure the wire connector is plugged in on the drivers side frame rail under the battery. You can shine a light down there and see it.

Pics of random wiring which I'm more curious about since I still need to verify basics of the fogs
Let me know if link doesn't work. New to photobucket.

Yes the Pics WORK good thanks
That's what I thought you ment about the brown wire
IDK what the other plug is to at the moment?? It wasn't plugged into anything????
I wonder if it Did have an alarm or something
But the brown looks like a Hack Job
Hope one the techs will see it or someone that Knows about the multi plug in first pic
Might be something aftermarket or does it go into the wire loom??

I'll see if I can't take a video tomorrow and host to YouTube. I followed the harness out the firewall into the engine bay and it looked like it terminated into a factory looking plug as well.
No it wasn't plugged into anything. I read another post where someone said (no pics) they found a similar unhooked white plug in the dash and it wound up being for adjustable foot pedals....not an option on my truck. But I can't fathom that being it if the other end of the harness terminates at the hvac controls and the brown wire unhooked yields no ac.
Lets not get to wrapped up in this tonight, it's late, and I need to tear further into it and get sine better pics and or a vid before I have you guys wasting your time.
Thanks again for the quick replies. Supposed to get up to 60 degrees tomorrow so I'll definitely tear into it more.
