Need some input please!! Looking at a 6.4 w/ 248,000

I'm looking at a 2008 F250 4x4 crew cab with the 6.4 engine auto trans. and a little less than 250,000 miles. I've been a long time owner of the 7.3, but my truck is rusting out faster than I can keep up and now it's time to move on. The 08 runs super quiet and smooth as can be. Not a drop of oil anywhere under the truck, none at the axles, trans., transfer case, anywhere. Engine is bone stock and 95% of those high miles are highway. Body is super clean and straight. My concern is buying a truck with this many miles, then without warning something goes and sets me back $5,000.00 or more. That motor looks wedged in there and I'm sure a lot of the stuff on the motor makes it look bigger. What are your thoughts or concerns? Should I run in the other direction? I'm not afraid of doing some work on it, but it doesn't look like it needs much right now other than a lift and tires. Thanks!

By the way, this truck is for sale for $13,800. It's an XLT, would have liked a Lariat, but ain't gonna happen at that price.

There are plenty of people on here who will step up and give you some good advice. My only thoughts are that seems a little high priced for the miles. But Im in Texas and these trucks are everywhere which lowers the price.

First thing would be get a report from Ford Dealer or seller. Have all updates been done. What has been replaced on the truck. The miles are high, but depending on how it was used, that might be better than half as many miles that were all stop and go city miles. For the pacific northwest that price is low.

Did you ever find out what repairs were done on this truck? I'm interested to know how well it held up for the first 250,000 miles.

Did you make a decision on the purchase?

Go to your nearest Ford service and ask for an Oasis report. How do you know the engine is "bone stock?" It's VERY easy to put these trucks back stock. Heck, I've even found Ford Factory crimp clamps for hoses and intake. How many hours are on the engine?

I believe the oasis report only covers work that was performed when a vehicle was under warranty.

Sorry for the delay to update but I've been very busy working. I looked at this truck several times ( was for sale just a few miles from my house ) and drove it 3 times. It really did drive nice, very quiet, powerful, handled well. I did take down the VIN number and went to my Ford dealer. They told me they could only give me info on repairs done while under warranty or for recalls UNLESS the work was done at their dealer, which it wasn't. All updates were done and nothing was outstanding. The dealer selling the truck had a CarFax done and it didn't really show much. The things that concerned me most were.....I found that it had a 5th wheel hitch in the bed at one time, hidden by a new duraliner, after looking more closely around the inside of the rear fender wells I found Bondo that was covering up some rust, and it looked like the rear main seal was leaking. Another huge factor was the 250,000 miles and what repairs were going to be needed. I know these engines will go easily over 300,000 miles if they are and were taken care of, but I felt it wasn't worth the gamble right now. Thanks for everyones input! Steve

I thought it was a little risky myself.. I think you made the right decision ..08-10 powerstrokes have became more reasonable in price.. just keep an eye out.. I looked for years.. finally got mine last year for 32k which I thought was a deal..2008 54k miles 4wd lariat.. good deals out there just be patient.
