Gary, we may need to go to Plainview Salvage to hunt for those goodies. They don't like for you to pull your own stuff though. They have a guy that will go out and pull it for you while you point it out to him. It takes forever to get stuff, but they have a lot more bullnose trucks and options. I am sorry all of the times I have been out there I haven't looked for sag pumps in the trucks. Seems like I am always looking for something different when I am out there. I don't need to go anytime soon personally, but I am not objected to going with you if you want to go look sometime.
Bill/Luke/Jim - You think the 460's poly-groove belt system might fit the 400. And, from what I've seen with the W brackets fitting an M that might be the case. So, if the poly-groove system is that much better than 3 v-belts I'm willing to gamble on that and spend the time and dollars to pull a set of brackets and see.
But, I need to understand exactly what I'm looking for. First, it has to be from a 460 in a van so it uses the Saginaw - right? And it obviously needs to run the poly-vee belt system. But, is there only one of those? And what years?
Bruno - Maybe a week from tomorrow to go to the salvage? But, do we know that the one we went to doesn't have what we are looking for? The reason they would be better is that I think there are a lot of bolts and components to remove and I want the bolts but maybe not the components, like the AC compressor and maybe not the PS pump.
Gary, the EFI 460s were all polygroove belts. 88-91 will use the smaller water pump bolt circle, 92-97 will be the larger bolt circle. As far as the brackets, I am reasonably sure the differences will probably be alternator mount (later engines may use a tangent mount) and PS pump, Ford or Saginaw. Your water pump, unless they drilled the hub dual pattern, will take the earlier pulley.
If you by chance find a later 460 and can snag it, I would like to get the larger bolt pattern water pump pulley for the new engine. It will have an F2xx number stamped into it.

Reason: Clearified
It would likely be an '88-'97.
Probably any gas E350.
I don't think they used the little engines in that GVW.
Not sure if Ford ever put a different pump in the vans.
As far as fitting, all the attachment points to the engine will be the same. The right side (alternator side) difference would be the side mount alternator. Left side, difference would be the power steering pump. If I were in Newport News, I could send you the pulleys to see if they fit (I have an extra set).
Ok, 88 - 91 (or is it 92?) E350 will be an EFI'd 460 with a poly-groove, Sag, and a radial-mount alternator. Thanks!
As for the water pump pulley, mine isn't drilled for two sizes so I'll need the earlier one, as was said. Unless I can make an adapter disk, but I'm guessing that would require also drilling the water pump's hub and I'm loathe to do that for fear of voiding the warranty. And, might it be a good idea to ask Flow Kooler if their pump's bearings will stand up to the Polly-groove setup?
Bill - I'll look for the larger/later pulley for you.
Jim - I was able to rep Bill but can't rep you. Sorry for the lack of promiscuity. but thanks nonetheless.
From what Flow Kooler shows on their website, their bearings are far superior to the older Ford pumps. I don't think that will be an issue at all.
For the right side, 88-91 possibly to 93 or 94 E or F 250/350 should be the same, left side, E-250/350 88-97 should be the same. Look for class C motorhomes there were a lot of E-350 based ones built.
Water pump pulley for you, 88-91 = small pattern, 92-97 = large pattern

Good point, Bill, the brackets on the passenger's side of an EFI'd 460 in a pickup should be the same as those on a van. So if the van or van-based RV has the driver's side Saginaw-style bracket but not the passenger's side bracket I can look in a pickup.
Yes, one of the reasons I chose the Flow Kooler pump was for the bearings. Then there's the added flow due to the impeller and the aluminum casting that saves weight.
Is there any downside to the tangent-mount alternators? In other words, if I find one of those passenger's-side brackets but not the radial-mount bracket would that be a reasonable solution? (I realize it means I'll have to buy another alternator, but if that's what it takes.....)
Gary, the only downside I have run across is different frame sizes just like the axial mount ones. The issue becomes that only the frame size the bracket was made for will fit, you can't redo it easily.
If you find a tangent mount, it will probably have some kind of tensioner as the right side belt is adjusted with the alternator on the axial mount system.
