Is this a 6.9 or 7.3 IDI???? Check pictures Please!!

Hello guys I ran across this engine that is for sale. I know its a Ford but dont know the diff. Is this a 6.9 or 7.3 IDI?? By looking at the marking there is 6.9 stamp on the front pulley. There are no plates or tags on the valve covers. The guy who is selling it does not know. I could be wrong but doesn't the oil filler tube on the 6.9 is different from the 7.3??? Anyone help would do!! I need information before I purchase. I really need a 7.3 not a 6.9!! Thanks

Looking at the fuel filter housing, if it does not have a fuel heater then it should be a 6.9. Also, it looks like it has a zf attachted to the back, 6.9's only ever came with a 2wd zf option so that could help too.

Also has 7.3 glow plugs, but both the oil fill and glowplugs can be changed. What size are the head bolts?

My oil filler on my 6.9 is that same style.

Edit: 1987 6.9's also had the newer style glow plugs so you can't go off of either of those. Best was to tell would be the head bolt size. The block is stamped but I believe it's under the ip cover.

Racing,

Is the socket size different for the two head bolts and if so, do you know the socket size, Just curious, because this question comes up from time to time.

Tnx,

Mac.

It is, I went out to the shop to see if I could find a spare head bolt to verify, but I couldn't find anything... I believe that the 7.3's are 1/2" and the 6.9's are 7/16".... but Im not 100% on that yet... could be a size up... however, I know the studs on a 7.3 are 9/16, so I don't think the head bolts are....

Thanks Arps but I don't have access to the engine easily. I only took these photos when I looked at the engine. I couldn't find a plate then I saw 6.9 on that pulley so I didn't purchase it.

I just thought maybe somebody would be able to identify what is it by the pics. He just has this engine sitting doing nothing. He has an electrical company and bought it for one of his truck but sold the trucks!!

how much is he asking for it?
if the price it rite, engine size wold not matter to me. but it has to be rite, with the missing injector pump, lines and other assorted things, the cost to get it running will add up real quick.
