I doubt it. There was supposed to be some basic PATS programming options included several upgrades back, but I would not expect it to give you a count. I may be wrong, though.

I don't have an EX, so I have no way to learn this part first-hand. I might know something next month after a GTG.

i know that ae can program a key, as i only have 1 key right know and the stearlers want $95+ just to program a key i decided to get AE as that $95 covers 1/3 the cost. i have found a thread that shows how to program but no help as to see the total count of keys. i know there can only be 8 so i may just wipe them all and start over.

Wiping and starting over would probably be the most expedient approach.

Snakedoc, you can program the keys without AE, but having AE is definitely a good thing! 😎

Actually, Rich, PATS keys can only be programmed with special programming equipment because of the RFID chip inside them. Standard remotes can be programmed manually, but not the PATS keys. The only sources I've been able to find for the PATS keys are the dealers, locksmiths, and certain high end scanners. AE didn't even have the capability until several years back when finally included the PATS programming feature in one of their upgrades.

good catch Pete, my bad and my apologies - I was thinking about the remotes when I wrote my post this morning

correction to my previous post: If you have two keys and need to program another you can do this thru your ignition. Here are the steps I borrowed from Tarm on PSN a few years ago.

1. Insert and existing (working) key into the ignition cylinder.
2. Turn the ignition cylinder ON (RUN NOT START) and back to OFF. Ignition should stay on for at least ONE SECOND.
3. Remove the existing key and, within TEN seconds, insert a second working key and turn it to ON (RUN) and the back OFF. Ignition must be in ON for at least ONE second, but no more than TEN seconds. Remove the key.
4. Insert the new key before TWENTY seconds have elapsed and turn it to ON (RUN). Leave it the ON position for at least ONE second and turn back to OFF.
5. The security light will light up for THREE seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed.
6. To program additional keys, repeat steps 1 through 5

If you have only one key you can either use AE to program it, go to the DEALERSHIP or a locksmith. Just one more way AE pays for itself !

When I bought my Excursion it only came with 1 key so I bought a couple of extras from keyless-Remotes.com for about $15 each. I used AE and Pete's instructions (F250_) on his webpage to program the first key. The other key I used the manual steps above....

Hopefully my memory is working better than this morning.....

some additional good to know info if you have 2 keys and are planning to program more the manual way:

The first 2 transponder keys are used to put the PATS in "Program mode". You need to have all keys with you that have already been programmed as well as the ones you want to program. When you do go into program mode all keys other than the first 2 are erased - so you need to redo all of them plus any new ones you add.

JUST AN FYI you should always keep at least 3 keys that way if you ever loose one you still have 2 to enter the PATS program with.

Borrowed from Tarm......

Once you program your second key you can use the steps above and it will erase all other keys.....but, you should always keep at least 3 keys that way if you ever loose one you still have 2 to enter the PATS program with.

Purchasing AE is a wise move - it will pay for itself in the short term.....

See you guys online tonight - in the middle of a blizzard (snowing & 40-55mph winds - crazy crap!!!!) - time for me to take the Excursion out (she lives for this!) and pick up the kids from school.........

To be completely honest, Rich, I forgot about the manual programming method when there are two keys present.

Also, I can't take credit for the AE instructions because the only AE guide I have on my website is for changing tire size. The PATS key instructions must have been on someone else's site.

i got my AE version 12.0 running today and if you go under the pats security tab then the live data you can chose number of pats keys and it will show the number of keys it has saved. hope that helps someone.
i have only used ae for 10 min so far and it looks great! know i will have to limit my self on the time i play with it.

my AE dose not have a security dongle only the cable?
