I'm having a issue with the retractable steps my 08 expedition. The driver side one will intermittently go up and down. Sometimes when I open the door it won't come down, but while driving it sounds like it's trying to come down. Any ideas where I can start looking for issues?

 

You can try lubing the heck out of every movable part, but it will only be a temporary fix. The motor is the issue. You can now replace just the motor (previously you could only buy the entire assembly) or if you're really mechanically inclined, you can disassemble the motor and try to repair it. There was a post here several months back in which one guy did that and fixed the motor for just a few bucks.

 

I also have trouble with the retracting running boards. It's a 2008 Explorer. Can I continue in this post or try to find the same type of post for Explorer? THX Geo.
