fuel system problem 94 f150

94 f150 4.9L 5spd 4x4 single rear tank

my second week of owning this truck, last weekend i had to pull the tranny and put a slave cylinder in it, now this morning i was letting it warm up before going somewhere. 5 minutes later i came outside it was no longer running and would crank but not start. check engine light would come on after a few minutes of driving, now its obviously not running and the check engine light is on all the time. i called a bunch of auto stores and none of them have an EEC code reader. not even any of the ford stealerships.

the truck fires up when i pour some gas into the throttle body.

i have tried turning the key on and off 3 times and cranking on the 4th time (as told by napa guy) and banging the fuel tank with a hammer. did not work.

when i turn the key on, i hear some clicks, but no fuel pump.

i bought a fuel pump and relay from carquest, i thought thats a good place to start.. i tried putting the new relay in each of the 4 places in the fuse box and nothing helps. i tried wiggling the electrical connectors.

does this sound like i need a fuel pump? when they go, do they suddenly go? the truck has been running fine right up until it shut off.

if i let the truck sit for a while then crank it it very breifly makes an attempt to start then nothing.

i was just about to lower the tank down when i noticed the plug was all corroded. cut the wires off the plug and spliced them together. it fired right up!

hopefully that lasts until spring/summer when i pull the bed to undercoat the frame. i will look into getting new wires. good thing it broke right in my driveway and i wasnt going anywhere important.

so wasted the whole day figuring it out but now i can return the fuel pump and get $170 back!
