FICM dying again?
I hope someone has some insight as to what's going on with my truck. It has been bucking and stalling out recently and today it finally died. It is a 2003 6.0l F350 with head studs, egr delete, replaced HPOP,ICP,IPR and two months ago I had Ed rebuild the FICM and add the Atlas 40 tune to it. I am running the 100HP SCT tune in it. Im at 240k on the truck
I have the SGII in it. the ICP is over 500 but the weird thing is that the Volts are at 12.7 KOEO,11.9 crank and 13.7 run but the FICM main power intermittently goes 47.5-49v while running but then dies and wont start and then the FICM main goes to about 30v and slowly dies to zero.
The logic power is fine while running at 12v but now it jumps around 9v and also slowly dies to zero. Relay and fuses are new. I test the power at the underhood relay block and get 12.7 v but the SGII says different.
Could the FICM be dead already? Also, why the intermittent bucking and dying. Some days its fine all day and others are bad. May be a coincidence, but it acts up on rainy days and not really on the dry days.
Any one with any ideas? Thanks in advance
Also, i keep headlights and a/c off until glowplugs go off and voltage goes over 12.7-13.5.
Have your alt and batteries check. A bad battery can overtax the barely adequate alternator.
Bad bat/alt can kill the ficm, gotta ensure adequate battery voltage.

Seriously, though, I enjoyed our chat the other night (was it last night? Just entirely too much going on...).
I'd suggest replacing the relay yet again and of course swinging through your wiring harness pretty thoroughly. Wet weather should impact exactly nothing on the FICM.
Of course, the #1 way to kill any FICM, even if it IS one of mine
is to starve it for supply side voltage. Going through these puppies like candy is I'm sure not the goal. Let me know what you find!

It was a chafed/broken wire in the harness. It was the red/yellow wire that turns on the relay that supplies the FICM. There were four other wires at the same location that needed repair. It was where the harness goes from the motor, under the steering column and as it goes back up towards the fenderwell, it was rubbing on the front edge of the shock absorber mount. I could have looked in next to the tire and seen it.
I could not have found it without Ed's help. I talked to him three times, asked him many questions and I was probably just a pain in the neck to him and he was patient and helpful. Aside from him being a good businessman, he's just a good guy period! I would say that if you need FICM help, call Ed or just burn the truck to the ground in your driveway. There are no other choices!
