Need help on Tires (Hercules or BFG's)

Hey Y'all, im in a dilemma....

(Ill first start by saying that I'm going to be driving the F-250 for about 2 or 3 years as a daily driver, soon going to be the donor truck for my diesel swap in my 77'. So, what I plan to do is, buy one set of 4 tires on the F-250 until the diesel swap is done, then, switch over the tires onto the 77' and just by 2 more tires.)

I've got my 77' F-350 SCab dually that needs tires... but I also got my 89' F-250 SCab that needs tires. I'll mostly be daily driving in the city, and on hwy, with occasional off roading with the boys. The tires size I've chosen is LT245/75R16. Now, before you say "too big", my pop is running LT235/85R16 BFG All Terrain TA/KO's on his 1995 Ford F-350 CCLB Dually and has lots of clearance between the rear duals.... so much so that he says he could probably got to 245's and be OK, and he hauls a 33ft 5th wheel... And iv trusted him since forever considering he drove dump truck in the 50's & 60's and towed horses all over.

My main question is about the tires I have selected. my 3 option are :

Hercules Trail Digger M/T
BFGoodrich All Terrain TA/KO
Hercules Terra Trac D/T

A bud had the BFG's which were a great tire, but only lasted about 8-9 months (99' GMC Suburban LWB, 8,000lbs). Not really heard much about the Hercules. If anyone has/is using the Hercules tires, what do you think? How did they perform? How long did they last? Thanks y'all for reading...

I just bought my second set of Toyo M/T tires. Best money I ever spent.

I've heard a lot of good comments about the BFG's
But the only thing I've heard about Hercules is from my Dad when he bought a set 20yrs ago. He had them on his 89 F-150 which he used for work and it was always loaded with about 2k lbs worth of equipment. He said he got 4 flats in 6 months and he'll never use them again. I have no idea exactly what tire they were, all I know is they were Hercules

Now I don't know if they are the same today as they were 20yrs ago. But that's all I know about them.

I had Hercules on our Honda Civic. They lasted about 10,000 miles. One blew out at around that mileage.

I only run Toyo Tires now. I have Toyo Open Country on our Dodge 2500 4x4 & on the Honda. We have 20,000 on the Toyo's on the Honda & they still look new.

Toyo Open Country tires I find have a really wide Sectional Width... and probably cost an arm and a leg here in Canada. The Hercules are $185ea for Trail Digger M/T, $189ea for Terra Trac D/T and $230ea for the BFG's...

On the tire size, 245/75R16 are only 0.4" wider than 235/85R16, so that ought to let you eyeball if the wider tires might be an issue.

But they are 1.25" smaller in diameter. So unless you are looking to go to shorter tires you might want to rethink that size.

As far as the brands go, I know nothing about Hercules. I've owned at least 9 sets of BFGs on various trucks and typically got around 50K miles out of a set. I expect to own a lot more BFGs.

I still would not buy Hercules. Cooper is another brand that has been good to you.

I just bought a set of BFG All terrain T/A KO's. I like them. Also heard good things about Hankook DynaPro's.

I have dynapro's on my 07 Pathfinder and they are great. My Father in law has them on a Dodge 2500 and loves them as well. I have been looking into Definity Dakota A/T2's which are a Cooper tire sold exclusivly at PepBoys. Price is $144.99 a tire and they have high ratings and reviews.

In the olden days when they first came out, the BFG ATs were bad about noise and also strange wear patterns. That has not been true for a long time. I have them on my F150 and my Bronco and I am very happy. They are quiet, smooth riding, they look better than anything else on the market (IMO) and they have been long-lasting as well. I just put the set on the Bronco and I did not even look at anybody else's tires.

Yeah the BFGS had some wear issues in the past... Some people still complain about them, but those same people usually havnt checked their alignment, or rotated them regularly...

I have had the the BFGs for a year now, and am pretty happy with them so far. Good traction, and are winter rated so I dont have to carry chains to go over the mountain passes...

My only complaint is that they like to pick up gravel, and I am always picking it out of the treads... Gonna get that with most AT's though

Was it a big upgrade? I just bought general grabber at2s and I love them over what I had but I'm already planning out what to get when I go bigger.

In cold freezing conditions they are better in snow and way better with ice. Slushy snow, they are also better. Heavy rain on roads, don't really notice much difference but perhaps a small bit better with regards to hydroplane situations.
Dry pavement is the same i would say.

Off road on gravel logging roads i like these better, same with rough rocky sections. No experience with either in mud.

I work in the oil patch of northern Alberta and it seems 90 percent of the pickup trucks run these for tires. So i have used them in the gumbo mud up there but i can't compare to anything else.
