2010 f350 cc dually

Will anyone gave me a little info on a 2010 f350 6.4 dually
Is the 6.4 a good eng. or better than the 6.0 ?
What about MPG ?
I have a 1999 f350 7.3 CC Auto with 136000 miles on her.
Thinking about getting something newer what's your option ?

Thanks for any Info Malcolm

I think it all depends on what you would use the vehicle for, the new emissions controlled diesels really prefer highway driving and long distance rather than short trips and start/stop driving. The long drives give the truck the ability to regen and clean the exhaust filters.

All of that being said there are certain things that can be done to really improve both the 6.0 and 6.4 and both are great engines if properly maintained. Both require quite a bit more upkeep and regular maitenance than the 7.3.

If you are interested in the 2010 F350 then the first thing to do is get an oasis report on it and that will show any warranty work or dealership work done on the vehicle. This could either make or break the truck for you so its important to know the history and upkeep on these emission controlled diesels. Mileage on the 6.4 i can attest to, BEFORE i lifted and added wider off road tires to my f250 i was getting about 13 average city and highway mixed driving, and somewhere about 9-10 towing depending on trailer (better mileage with goosenecks and the worst ive seen towing my boat). After i lifted my truck and went wide on tires i was getting about 10 average city/highway empty and 8-9 towing. Thats just the realism associated with a 5 ton truck and towing heavy trailers which i assume you will be doing with a DRW. Lastly i would assume the dually you are looking at woud be geared slightly different than my truck so mileage will likely be slightly less, but better towing power.

I had a '10 F350 DRW CC 4x4 6.4L and enjoyed most every minute of it. Most of he duallies have a 3.73 rears unless it was ordered with the 4.10s. Mine had the 3.73 and I averaged around 12-13 on the road and around 11.8-12 in town. I pulled a high profile 5th wheel with it and averaged 7-8 while towing it at highway speeds. A little less snaking through the mountains. It tows very well. The transmission/engine brake works better on the 6.4 than it does my 6.7 and I can tell that with just hauling cars, travel trailers and tractors, not even the big camper. I knew the mileage situation before buying it and bought it anyway because they are towing BEASTS! That being said, I was scared to do the EGR/DOF deletes on mine due to the warranty issue. I have friends that have done the deletes(plus drove one at work) and the difference is remarkable. I bought mine at 4500 miles and traded it at 21k, and of that, 13k of that was towing my 15k pound 5er. I hope this helps.

I towed about the same amount as Monty with mine. Around 80K of it was towing heavy.

I agree that the tranny and tow haul setup for this motor is second to none.

My lifetime mpgs was 11.5.

I've had a 6.4 for almost 5 years and 75,000 miles. I modified it at about 45,000. Should have left it stock and bought the ESP I guess. Last year I had a 4,000 dollar tranny bill and a 5700 dollar Head gasket bill. In fairness, both could have been repaired cheaper as I took the opportunity to have both the tranny and motor built up a bit. But, not much cheaper. So, unless you have deep pockets don't get caught with a 6.4L out of warranty. it does tow the way they say it does, I towed 5000 miles through the Rockies and back to Georgia AFTER I blew the HG. Pulled like a champ just had to keep adding coolant. Before the 6.4L I had a 7.3L for 7 years and 140,000 miles. Now, about once a week I look on ebay and craig's for a 7.3L that has low mileage and would meet my needs. If I had a good 7.3 that I knew had been maintained I would be confident I could get 200,000 more miles without major repairs. I can't say that about my 6.4L.
