Looks like the original box and pitman arm. I believe it was originally a floor shift truck.

Didn't the 56's have stock turn signal switch in the column? I remember my old 56 having a turn signal switch built into the column.

I just talked to my father in law who is the previous owner. His memory isn't so great he's 80, but he thinks the column is not stock. It was originally a 3 on the tree. He's not sure about the box though. Probably going to replace it with a new ididit.

53 thru 56 all had the TS Switch in the column if so ordered. If not (like mine) then a signal stat or other brand was strapped onto the column....

Everything on this entire truck was painted yellow at some point. It looked like big bird. I'm trying to undo all that.

If it's not THE original, it's AN original.

If the column (hollow tube) is 36" from the steering wheel "Bell" to the bottom end of the tube, it's a '53-'55. If it's 33" then it's a '56.

The only real difference in the turn signal assembly, is the '53-'55 had a round **** and the '56 had a long ****.

It seems I also remember seeing in one of NumberDummy's diagrams once that the '56 had more of a bend in it to accommodate the dished steering wheel. Or I could have imagined it.

OEM one piece column and box, replaced steering wheel (maybe that is what your FIL remembers being replaced?)
