1950 frame, long to short

forgive me if mess this up, my first post
Is it difficult to shorten a 1950 F3 long bed frame to short?
Not worried about the welding, just if its doable and worth it.

Welcome to the forum! If you're a competent and capable welder, or know someone who is, it's certainly doable. Whether or not it's worth it is up to you, and what you want from your truck. The pros that do frame welding will cut and weld at an angle or in a step fashion, rather than a simple vertical butt weld. Gives greater surface area and doesn't crack when the frame flexes, as it's intended to do.

From what I remember reading, the frame needs to be shortened in two places. Plus the bed crossmembers need to moved.

Ilya is correct. Take 8" out of the frame just below the gap between the cab and the box. Then you will need to trim the rear of the frame to match your build plan. If you are putting a trailer hitch on your truck you may want to make it a little longer in the rear. I'll post some pictures that are on my other computer. As Ilya says you will need to fabricate some cross members and shims to match the box that you are using.

I think that you will need to get some F1 emergency brake cables too.

Hopefully you will be changing the suspension too as the ride was pretty severe on my F2 . . . Can't imagine what an F3 would be like.

thanks for the info

Thanks for all the reply's.
I found a short bed frame, but concerned it might be a 1947.
Is there a quick way to tell the difference between a 47 and 50 frame?
Thanks
