Hey all been working on my 77 F250 highboy along with a couple of my other projects a 64 Falcon 2 door wagon and a 65 Falcon 2 door hardtop, anyway i have been doing some research on power steering options for my Falcons I have ran across something that seems very very interesting, a few guys have grafted the elctric power steering columns from 2002 to 2007 Saturn Vue, Saturn Ion into a classic Ford by grafting the two columns together to get a very simple power steering assist, there is even a guy on Ebay who sells a brain boecu) for the speed signal to control the amount of assist for 65 bucks.Just wondering if this might be a option for a power steering sytem for a full size truck? seems like it works very well on a smaller platform, brains racing might have to try this out, parts will be cheap enough from the local pick and pull.
Yeah.. I recall it was Mustangs Monthly who just published an article on an electric PS kit... it's like $1500. It's got a huge servo hangin' off of the column about where your right shin would be. 'Might not be that funky on a truck. The integral PS from Borgeson for 'Stangs and such is a much cleaner install on those cars. Except for 73-75 4x4s, we already have integral PS.
Post up a thread if you go that route or post up links for who has already done it.... options are always good.
I have not tried this yet but by looking at the pics from those who have mocked it up in a Falcon it seems to fit fairly decent, yes there is a electric motor hanging of the column but with a little fab work it seems to fit ok under the dash of a Falcon, which have alot less room under there then a Highboy, if i an figur out how to put pics on here i will post some of the progress pics that i have seen, next time at the pick and pull I may get a column to try this out if it doesnt work on the Highboy , pretty sure i can get it to work on one of the Falcons, my concern is with the weight and 35" tires on my F250 whats the feedback going to be from the electric power steering
