is this excessive for 5.4L triton?

Alright so my dad is buying a new expedition (1997) with the 5.4L triton and it has 196k miles and I was wondering if that was kinda excessive. Note: we are mechanically inclined. Just not too sure on this one...

Um, a 1997 is not a new expedition.

Although 196K is up there, the truck could easily be good for another 100K without having to do anything major to it. Depends a lot on how it's been maintained. But the price (which you didn't post) has a lot to do with whether or not this deal is worth it.

Got ours @ 181000 and still going strong at 206000 now. Uses only about 5/8 to 3/4 quart of oil at about 3000+ OCI.

Not a drip anywhere when parked. At this many miles, I expect some oil usage. Uses less than my 300 with 129,000 and leaking valve cover.

Thanks for mentioning the oil cooler lines. Will keep an eye out for any leaks and I hope it stays leak free.
