TBI on 460?
Lets see how far this goes before all the "purists" start crying foul!
I am currently working on a TBI set up from a '95 CHEVY to go onto my 84 Jeep Wagoneer.
I was intimidated by all the wiring, but thinning out the new harness was a BREEZE!
Once I get the Jeep up and running, I plan on doing the same thing to my '79 F350! I will be using a GM 454 TBI system. I am NOT doing this for MPG, rather for better drivability, cold weather starts, elevation changes,etc....
I would go with the Ford MPFI from a latter 460, but cannot find any decent write ups. Beside, I would have to change the entire top end of the engine....which adds up to more $$$$.
Looking for input....POSITIVE input.

Did a JY TBI conversion on my Jeep CJ7 258 and love it. Looking to do same to my 1978 F-250's 400ci. Did pick up a 1988 Ford 460 MPFI, that I will eventually install in the F-250, just need to do some more research on this install. But want to see what I can get out of the 400 first its a quick and easy upgrade from the Carb.

Nothing negative from me, other than cost, and cost effectiveness.........Are you really attached or sentimental about that specific engine, or do you already have a fortune invested into it?
If you compare what the TBI will cost, and provide benefits wise, how does compare with simply pulling that motor out and replacing it with an injected 460 out of a late 80's truck?
Even assuming youve got some money in your current engine, could you sell that motor for a decent price to a "purist"?
Now if you just want to have something that no one else in town has, and want to be a pioneer, i totally understand your motivation....
But have you sat down and crunched numbers for the different options

I'd love to see this take off on your truck.
I looked for a long time into trying this with my 400; looking back, the TBI from a 350 would probably have been pretty good for that engine, but at the time I had myself convinced that I needed one from a 454 and the junk yard unit just never came along.
I wasn't willing to pay what the schiesters on E-bay wanted so I could use it as a learning tool and then an engine swap came along and it's not a consideration any more, but I'd still very much like to see this...in a write-up with about a million pictures.

what are you going to do for a knock sensor?
having owned an MPFI 460 and a carb'd one, and a TBI350 i'll take the carb'd 460. mileage is the same, power is the same, and the MPFI ones just never run 100% right, my van always backfired on long grades even with a good tuneup, new sensors etc. a fleet mechanic i know said that was a really common problem on MPFI 460's, stock fuel map was just too lean. TBI is cool idea, i know a few guys who've done TBI swaps. for what you're looking for it sounds good. they don't make very much power and are very rudimentary when it comes to fuel management. the TBI 350 truck i owned was pretty reliable, still not as reliable as a carb in good condition with a mechanical fuel pump...
