Shocks were yet another option on these old girls. There are two kinds that work, I have the original friction (lever, knee) shocks that bolt to the frame and there is another, later Ford adapter kit to add tube shocks. I do have part numbers somewhere if you need those.

The friction shocks mount to the frame and then to the axle with a connector. The top one is my original, the bottom is from a similar year car, since they both used the same frame and no one make parts for the original (top) one.

Welcome to the site. I'm sure you'll find tons of info here. On the frame you'll find the holes for the shocks. 1/2 tons had front and rear shocks standard. They are called Houdaille, but many call them lever shocks. Tube shocks were optional for the fronts, using the same bracket as a car, adapter kits were also available from the aftermarket. You can find them on eBay quite often. Tube shocks make a great improvement over the Houdailles. I switched my 46 to tube shocks in 1996 and am glad I did.

Ford Front Tube Shock Kits - 78-18124-KIT - C&G Ford Parts
I'm not sure if this for one or both sides. They seem to have the rear set also.
