Legalities

Does anyone know if it's illegal to install an EGR Delete kit and/or remove the DPF?

I'm new to this diesel world and have no idea..

Thanks..

Try here.... US Environmental Protection Agency

People may be weary of offering legal advice... It is illegal to tamper with any EPA mandated emission control device.

I'll say this, it is also illegal to go over the speed limit or not use your turn signal even when there is no one else on the road.

True, but in some places, like Colorado, failing the emissions will keep you from renewing your license plate. An out of date plate is pretty hard to hide and the testing agencies are required by law to report the failure to the state. I'm not sure that altering the emissions and then making it factory again every couple of years is worth the possible gain. Personally, I would rather take my chances on a speeding ticket.

There are no emissions inspections in Florida, but this isn't a state issue.. it's a federal mandate and I suspect you don't want to mess with those guys..

Yeah but in Colorado you can sit in the yard in it and smoke grass. How cool is that? Believe it or not there are a lot of posters on these diesel forums that say they do just that. Put it back to stock for the annual or biannual inspection. If it's only the DPF/DOC (CAT) pipe it can be changed in a couple hours, probably less after you've done it a couple times.

Very easy to switch back and forth actually and well worth it. The gas mileage is so much better deleted and tuned. Not to mention to much power to use.

Amen X-2, Stanley and Urdaddy hit the nail on the head. Once you delete, you'll never go back, even if that means you have to put that pipe bomb back on every year.

Colorado, could you imagine!

Unless it is Denver and then you have to be in your back yard as smoking grass in your front yard is illegal.

That would presume you can do the work yourself. The mind's willing but the body is not so much any more.

LOL, I hear Ya. Im 41 and body doesn't like it much but I can still get it done in about an hour. That's with smoke (cigs) and beer breaks, lol. 4 total bolts, 2 hangers, easy job. And if you do it once a year for inspection the bolts are easy.
But your choice of course, if you don't like the idea of it don't do it.

I do like the idea of doing it . I'm just not mechanically inclined well enough to do it myself.. and I doubt you can get a shop to do it for you..

Very few if any shops will now do it. Again though it is four bolts. Not a big deal just need a good set of tools. Mostly because one bolt on the DPF is hard to reach. The hangers just slide out but are kinda stubborn, that's why you spray them. If I remember right you are in Denver, to far for me to come help but Im north of Amarillo, feel free to PM if you need anything.
