OK, I broke it

I have Vintage Air AC and it has a capilary tube on the control panel. Well, I broke it off the switch. What does it do?

I never use the heat only the AC. Can it work without it or do I have to replace the switch it was connected to?

The compressor won't cycle if that is broken. Those switches aren't cheap, tho. Take the old one to an A/C shop and they can surely match it. Or...

Looks like I can replace the entire panel for less than just the switch.

Looks like they have other individual parts not listed, might be worth giving them a call.

So I ended up replacing the whole controller.

The PO cut a hole in the dash for the stereo just under the cluster. I never really liked it there so I thought this would be a good time to move the AC controls to that spot.

I made a panel for the new controller so that it would cover the radio hole and hold the controller. I wanted the panel to be recessed so the the controller would sit flush in it. I used fleece and fiberglass resin to form it and painted it with a textured paint. It is a much better location for the controller.
