ignition issues on a 1976 302 in my 1954 f100
Ok i guess I'll start with the truck has a 302 from a '76 Maverick. It ran good before it was in a flood. I've rebuilt the motor and had it running with the old wiring that was spliced in many different places. But the alt went out and the voltage regulator went out and the coil almost at the same time. I have replaced everything except the distributor. I also ran all new wires to everything. I'm getting fire from the coil to the distributor and the truck will turn over but will not fire up. It doesn't have an ignition module just goes from the solenoid to the coil I'm lost at this point so any suggestions or wiring diagrams would be most helpful at this point.

So you are running points? And you are running 12v negative ground?
If you have a 4-post solenoid, one of the small posts should be labeled "I". That one goes directly to the coil (+) terminal. In addition there has to be a wire from the IGN terminal on the ignition switch, that usually runs thru a ballast resistor to the (+) terminal on the coil. If your coil is made with an internal resistor, then you don't need an external ballast resistor, and the wire from the "I" terminal is useless.

C9OZ-12250-A .. Resistor Wire-Ignition Coil-Marked: C9OB-12250-A (Motorcraft DY-85).
60" long / Color coded pink / 1.30-1.40 ohms resistance / #16 gauge wire.
1969/73 Fairlane/Torino/Mustang/Cougar / 1971/76 Maverick/Comet.
DuraSpark Electronic Ignition introduced in 1974, but not all vehicles came with it until 1976.

Also the distrutor has one wire that was connected to the coil is it supposed to be on the positive or negative side? my brother pulled it of and i need to make sure its put back in the right spot. The wiring diagram that i have says it goes on the negative side with the tac wire

Hello i talked to you the other day about my ignition on my '54 f100. i got the ballast resistor and needed to know what post on my switch. there is a battery post an acc post and the ignition post. also should there be a wire from the "I" side of the solenoid to the (+) of the coil in addition to the ballast wire.
