I thought only carpenters used that unit of measure. Classic!

Navy MM's (Machinest Mate, or mechanic) use it as a torque value and unit of measurement.

I may have a 'good deal' on a t'bird IRS however....
It has drum brakes and it has been cut in prep for a weld-in installation.
First of all, what (besides calipers and rotors) is involved in swapping the t'bird to disc?
Second what are the benefits of weld-in (like this cool build here) vs the bolt in kits?
Bottom line, it is not a good deal if I have to weld it back together to bolt it in if that is the best way to go. And, I really want disc brakes. It will require hub/modifications anyway to fit the same wheels as the IFS. If that requires new knuckles as well as rotor/claiper then forget this good deal. What say all the experts?

as far as I know they were all disc brakes, I have never seen a C/V shaft go thru a drum brake setup. the reason mine is welded in is to lower the stance. the rear IRS can be found for $300 or less

I have definitely seen t bird IRS with drum brakes. I have pics of them still sitting in a third. To be fair, I don't know what years or option packages of thirds had drums vs discs.
It seems that the welded in versions would be stiffer and eliminate the use of the additional crossmember kits want you to add.
I would post pics, but I am not allowed yet.

Unless the T-Bird drum brake axle is free, pick up a disc brake IRS. I have not see a link for a bolt in kit for the IRS swap. Post a link to the bolt in kit. i am about to mount my Mark VIII IRS and am looking at all options before I jump on the weld in kit.

Thanks

Matt

the wheels on it now are 17x8's with 255/45/17 tires. new wheels are going to be torq thrust M 18x10 with 295/35/18 in the rear probably 18x8 in the front

the 18x10's have 6.5 inch backspace you could go even wider in the rear but when you go above 10 inch wide rims they get real expensive and your choices are limited. I have not determined my front rim width yet until I get the sheet metal back on front. I highly recommend this tool especially if you are going low.

$80 seems like a lot for plastic but it really works

What is the measurement from rotor face to rotor face where the rim sits flush against. On your mustangII setup? And what's the markVIII distance?
