I have a 1997 F150 with the 4.6 and is an automatic. I have read all the posts on egr systems and the codes. I started with the DPFE sensor and work all the way down to replacing the EGR. I had enough and took it to the ford dealer to have them read the computer. They called me about an hour later and told me that the DPFE sensor was bad. I had already replaced it twice thinking that the first one was bad. Any suggestions would be of help. Thanks
Alot of times the EEC will say the DPFE is bad, but under the conditions it just isn't reading the voltage required.
Since you have just replaced this expensive part, and I think you have replaced the egr vavle, check the pipe to the egr valve. With the engine running, pull the hoses for the dpfe and make sure you have feel exhaust from the ports. If not it could be clogged causing the problem.
Also I have seen where the egr valve will be stuck causing the problem.
Ford informed me today that the ports are plugged. I know what needs to be done to clean them out, I have never done it before. Is it hard to do and what can I mess up by trying to do it myself. Thanks
The small lines from the DPFE sensor to the exhaust supply tube to the EGR valve are probably plugged. A thin flexible wire might knock the carbon deposits off / out.
