You just plug it into the OBD and follow the steps. You can change all kinds of things. Shift points, top speed, spark plug temp (or something like that) i just change to and from economy mode. I believe 5 Star can email me programs to download to it. And then i can upload them to my truck. It also diagnoses check engine codes.

I've been happy with my tuner from 5 Star. Im only running a 87 octane tow/perf tune. There are several to choose from. Contact 5 Star tuning and let them know how you use your truck and they'll set you up. After you get the tunes installed you can even have them tweek it more if you desire. Sure gears would be the most noticeable but its also more expensive option too $2k or so I hear. I got about $400 in my tuner setup which includes 3 tunes and the device itself. The cold air intake and that stuff is a waste of money. The exhaust would be helpful if you did a complete setup including headers.

Ive not heard a ton of positive things from early V10 owners. I don't have any problems getting both rear tires to smoke upon demand.haha

Performance Improved

Early modular motors had a crappy intake and head setup. Later mod motors had the PI conversion which upped HP/TQ a little bit and flowed much better.

Non pi engines like mine have a factory 275hp. The PI engines were up to 300 or just past. The later 3 valves are around 360 I believe. If your looking for performance and drivability improvements the best are gears, tuning and either headers or upgraded y pipe.

I have a y pipe and 4" catback. Catback was first but if I were to do over I would have only changed the muffler and y pipe. This summer I do plan on purchasing a tuner from 5 star though.

So why is the 2000 Ex rated at 310 HP?

On my '99 V10 I did a few mods. Namely I swapped in electric fans, used a tuner (SuperChips), and a single bladed throttle body.

Oh yea....until I went up to 35" tires is was pretty nice to drive. Best part was the MPGs stayed the same I recall.

Consider the fact that the V10 is nothing more than a V8+2. There are plenty of larger twin opening TB kits out there for performance, so why wouldn't a MONSTER single opening work. With the improvements in tuning files and devices and the newer V10 motors I'd do it again if I was in a V10.

it very well could have with tuning

it's a very popular mod on the 4.6 motors, and some 5.4 applications. We aren't talking huge gains, but 5-10 HP on stock motors, and upwards of 30 HP on modified motors in conjunction with supporting mods

btw, he isn't talking about a TB spacer if that is what you are thinking of

You couldn't get them to smoke when stock? I know our 02 V10 before this one we could and this current one we can do it even easier. We are running 285s on this one and the one before 265s.

If you go to THEDIESELSTOP and search my posts you can read up about my V10 mods. I may have posted them here as well. It's been a LONG time since I had that truck.
