I have a '93 Explorer with a 4.0L Pushrod V6. I get black smoke/soot from the exhaust shortly after startup and it wants to stall constantly. The EEC readout (Key On, Engine Off) gives a code 33 EGR-Valve Not Open, but I can't find the EGR valve. The Haynes manual shows the EGR location on a 4.0L SOHC V6, but NOT the 4.0L Pushrod V6. Before I got the EEC readout, the plugs, plug wires and Throttle Position Sensor were replaced with no improvement. Does this model even have an EGR valve? If so, where is it? If not, what else could it be? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

 

I am having the same problem with my 4.0 Explorer. I even replaced most of the vacuum lines to no success. If anyone has any idea what the problem is, pleeeeeezzzeee help!!
