7.3 covered in diesel

So I brought my 2000 Excursion to a local shop for some maintenance work. He installed my fuel filter incorrectly and it ended up shooting gallons of diesel all over the engine and ground. I didn't notice until the day after when I was idling and saw a huge puddle on the truck.

I replaced the fuel filter and spent some time wiping down the engine. Now the belt/pulleys have an awful squeaking whenever the truck is running. What can I do to stop the squeaking. I will have the mechanic do this work free of charge.

Thanks a lot.

Clean the pulleys and install a new belt. That ought to do it.

What did he do wrong, if it wasn't the beveled o-ring on the cap? I've screwed that thing up a few times myself, but was always able to spot my mistake and fix it before starting the engine.

If there's another way to screw up that filter change, I'd like to have somebody tell me, rather than figure it out on my own.

He left the seal from the old fuel filter on and put the new seal over it.

WOW. That's a new one...
Hey, don't be afraid to spray your motor down with low pressure water. Me and many others here do it all the time. Diesel is pretty light, and water does decently at carrying it away.

I did the same thing with an oil filter some years back not paying attention. It was quite the surprise when I had my head under the truck looking for leaks!!
