Rear Door Speaker Plug Help Request (Pictures Attached)

In the process of installing rear speakers in my 2001 Extended Cab, I was pleased to find speaker wires and a plug with both the male and female side intact. The female side of the plug is connected to the wires that presumably find their way to the head unit. The male side of the plug has no wire.

I'm trying to figure out if I can insert speaker wire into the male side of the plug (the other end of which would be soldered to the speaker terminals).

Of course, the easy solution is to cut the Ford plug and crimp the wires coming off the speaker directly the wires leading to the head unit.

Some pictures follow:

Male side on left, female side of plug on the right.

Female side is next:

David,

I saw your PM and haven't replied to it yet.

Get a dedicated Metra speaker wiring kit. Metra #72-5600. For Fords.

I believe that the install shop of any Best Buy can sell you that, and VERY-likely Fry's Electronics has them.

If you can wait, Ebay has them cheap.

It makes it REAL simple to install aftermarket speakers!

Thank you. That guidance was exactly what I was looking for.

Funny thing is the Ford 6 x 8 speakers I have already have some type of proprietary plug on them. The person that gave them to me said he thought they came out of a Crown Vic.

If they came out of a Ford, the connectors likely will mate without any adapters.

Maybe they're not a Ford set after all?
