I have a 100 mile pack of brand new Lithium batteries for it.. that my Girl Friend is now using in HER 67 Austin that SHE converted... I am thinking it will easily do 70+mph... got to finish it..and take it to the drag track and see what it will do... right now .. I am FIGHTING with the brakes... ! What a job ! ...Fronts now done. working on the rear...but NEED wheel cylinders... got 2.. need more.

So, the batteries and the electric motor go in place of the gas engine and radiator. And the motor is held in place on the transmission by welded chain?

Interesting design. How much torque do you think it would take to twist that chain loose?

It's connected to the stock transmission. Is that a synchronous tranny?

we have 6 of the chains.. and that IS a good question... the motor does have a lot of torque.. it seems that it can take off in any gear. I believe it is a stock tranny with a super low granny gear in first... the tranny is as big as the electric motor and that is without the bell housing. I don't know any thing about how fast this truck would have driven as a GAS vehicle...

Exactly. Even with a coupling that will tolerate some misalignment, I can't believe the chains are rigid enough for any real torque.

Welcome! go to midfifty dot com or LMCtruck dot com for parts. We have a Ranger at work - converted 100% elec. Battery management and keeping it dry inside are the biggest problems. Get the brakes right and show us more.

Interesting install! My club was commissioned to run an annual "EV Challenge" autocross event for several years. Some of the vehicles were quite impressive in performance. Most were direct drive with electronic speed controls. I love the battery array arranged like a V-8 engine under the hood!
For those unfamiliar with electric power, electric motors develop their max torque at startup, so they don't really require a transmission. Controlling the motor output so as to not overpower the drivetrain at startup is the real trick.

AFA parts, the F500 cab is the same as the F100, so glass etc is interchangeable. Mid Fifty Home - Mid Fifty F-100 Parts is one of the best sources for parts. Wheel cylinders and some brake parts are available on ebay. We have a handful of Big Job enthusiasts on here that can answer F500 model specific parts that will be along soon.

These originally came with under 200 HP and 200 Lb*ft of torque. So, you could possibly shear some drive train parts if it ever "hooked up." Far out! I toyed with thoughts of a motorcycle engine before rebuilding a 292 y-block for Albatross. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor. Look up widowmaker wheels. Soon.

This is probably a first, at least with a ton and a half old truck. My 56f500 would love to be converted to electric....and in Florida you could use solar....lol

Steve, just thought I would add , have you been to NPD,national parts depot just off rt.200 in Ocala ? They have ford truck parts and would save on shipping. Mid fifties is still no.1 choice, but NPD is close to you.
