Looking to buy an '03 6.0L Excursion. Anything I should be aware of?

So my husband and I are looking to buy an '03 Eddie Bauer 6.0L with 170K miles. Are there any significant issues we should look for in this truck or things to be aware of?

We are new to diesels so any help in figuring out the gotcha's would be appreciated.

Is it a 2wd or 4x4?

For 6.0L relate question, I suggest you go over to the 6.0L forum for better answer.

For Excursion specific, this is the place.

I just went through the process myself. 03 Eddie Bauer 6.0 4X4 with 105k. Read as much as you can from this thread, then read it again:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...used-6-0l.html

I'm very happy so far with my purchase. I have enough set aside to take care of any issues that may or may not arise in the future. Good luck and I hope you are as happy with your decision as I have been with mine, so far.

I would plan on replacing ball joints, mine were loose on the passenger side when purchased, driver's side was tight. I replaced the passenger side and now the driver's side is noisy.

2wd.

I'm checking out the 6.0L forum also.

Are there any Excursion specific issues I should know about for this year?

Are you looking to lift the truck or stay stock?

I don't think there is any difference between 03 to 05 Excursion excepted there was changes in engine production between 03 to 04 then other minor changes from 05-07. Each engine has their good and bad. It is all 6.0L PowerStroke Diesel...

make sure to check the adjustable pedal function, test many time to make sure the cable isn't broke. That cable will cost you more than $600 just for part alone.

It will be a family hauler and long trip taker. so it will stay stock except for some performance upgrades maybe.

Copsy, thanks for the link! Very informative indeed.

i just bought an 03 , 6.0l with 75k miles, spend most of your time inspecting the engine. I had to replace the glow plug control module right away, which i didnt know was faulty, and i replaced the original batteries. other than that it has been great so far.

Bobbie, you're adding to your stable, right? Or are you gonna trade in your F150?

Sorry, I was posting from my phone. At least people don't confuse you for the wrong sex! Most members here think I'm a guy.
