It just seems small town to me. I've only participated at one drag strip and that's when I lived in Utah back in '07. I went to Rocky Mountain Raceways for one of their test and tune days. It was similar to this video when I went, but it was PACKED when I went and was quite the experience to someone who has never done a legitimate drag race. Everything from your daily driver '75 F150, which is what I had, to pro street cars and drag bikes all at the same time. It was really weird. lol. But yes, we had to pass tech inspections and whatnot just to race. I had to make a makeshift radiator catch can, since my truck didn't have one, out of an ArmorAll wipe bottle and a piece of wire to hold it to my radiator support. I was allowed to go down the strip twice after that and then I went home. The tech guy also said I needed to have a second throttle return spring, but let me slide for that day.

Haha that video is NOTHING like it was the night we went. People everywhere, little kids running around, cars crammed in the "staging lanes" trying to make it to the front without losing a fender. Some really scary looking "race" cars making passes. It was entertaining, but I'll never make a pass there. Lol

Yeah looks fine in the video, but if its like you said then you wouldnt be worried about the facilities, its the unattended kid running on the track when you're full tilt, or some sketchy car breaking up and hitting yours... the hell with that, I'd rather drive to the next track.

Oh, I'm sure it's like he said it was. If you watch that video you can see plenty of windows down, no helmets, lots of passengers, and a lack of legit staging lanes, so it's no stretch to think that that was taken on a "good" day. I was wondering how they decided who won since there are no signs with times posted. I guess whoever gets there first wins? lol The only "drag strip" that's local to me is about 10-15 miles away and it's an 1/8 mile track. I've never gone to it, probably never will, and I suspect it's a LOT like the one in lubbock.

Yeah, no times at all. Just a dude at the other end radioing back which lane won.

They do have a timing system installed now, but is not functional yet. I suppose it is better than guys racing on the street, but the two times I have been I saw more near miss wrecks than I have in all my years going to real tracks combined.

Little history on Lubbock: It was one a full 1/4 mile track and a decently nice one. The owner decided to replace the racing surface and make it an all concrete track. Well, that was a great idea and all, but the concrete quickly started coming apart. My personal feeling is that there was no engineering done on the project (to save $$$) and subsequently the concrete was never tested. Anyway, they ripped it all out and started racing 'street style' down in the asphalt shut-down area. The grandstands, tower, bathrooms, concession stand are all still up there decaying. Kinda sad really.

I love this thread. As soon as it seems you are done, you take it a different way. "Sorry son, this is dad's race truck now." Awesome truck! Can't wait to see the new engine install.

Haha, yeah, that's sorta how it seems.

I really thought hard about leaving the EFI 460 and E4OD in it, adding a single turbo and seeing just how quick it could go. But dang, it's hard to pass up just throwing a proven combo (552/C6) in and letting it eat. The E4OD would be nice to have, but I don't think it would hold the power the 552 makes as it sits. It feel would need to be totally gone through, so that's a no-go because I try to do this somewhat on a budget!

Haha yeah, but that engine has long since been paid for and currently resides in my 83 Mustang. 😁

I finished up the floor mat and reinstalled the seats. Just in time too, because the radiator in Jake's Jeep decided it was time to start leaking! Actually it had been leaking a tiny bit for quite some time, but when the temp dropped last week it really started puking. So, he gets to drive the pickup this week.

Well the 552 has breathed it's last breath in the Mustang. My boys have it all ready to pluck out. It's so fun watching them work together on a project.

The king is dead, long live the King!

Looks like Paul now has a website for his killer E4OD/4R100 valve bodies.

www.punishervalvebodies.com

Great product and fantastic customer service.

Yes, best $200 I spent when I had my lightning. I didn't know if he was still around as I'm not on the lightning boards much anymore
