Ok, wow, so it's been a while.

Quick synopsis. Used the truck all summer to haul the kids and their lawn mowers around. Truck ran great, but I did not really do any work to it. I had hoped to use it to tow the Mustang to the start of Drag Week, but upgrades to the Mustng sapped my car budget monies.

Broke the engine in the Mustang on the drive on the first night of Drag Week in the middle of nowhere Kansas at about midnight. Parked the car and finished out the week riding shotgun with a buddy.

I'm in the process of building a new engine for the Mustang and am playing the "parts waiting game", so I decided to fiddle with the pickup again.

I had been watching a CL ad for a 75 camper special that the guy wanted to sell cheap (400) sans drivetrain. I thought I might pick it up and scavenge any parts I need off it. The problem was he did not list a phone number and was not responding to emails. So in the meantime I txted a buddy that said he had a truck they were planning to scrap. Today I check the ad and the guy had added a phone number so I call and go by a look at it. It's pretty thrashed, but probably worth the money. I told the guy my buddy was looking at another truck for me and I would holler at him tomorrow.

Man am I glad I did because a little later Trent texts me pics of the truck they have and its in waaaaaaay better condition! Whew. I ask what they want for it and Trent responds "just buy me a cheeseburger sometime" which is what I tell people when I give them something for free. Lol. He said they really just want it gone. It is a 74 (I think) long wheelbase 4x4 1/2 ton with no rear axle, but all the stuff I want seems to be in good shape. So, this Saturday morning I will be dragging it home! Can't wait to dive in and check it out!!

Free trucks are the best trucks! I love the color combo on that, I wish I could find a (repairable) Dent like that.

Why not drop your truck 460 in the Stang and finish out drag week? XD.

Sorry to hear about that though, I always liked to see your Mustang in the magazine, I thought it was so epic (and middle schooler 1.90 a gallon me wanted a 460 mustang)

Nice score, I'd love someone to give me a free truck with a grille shell that nice. All the one's I've come across are no where near that nice and want top dollar for it.

I have a '78 2wd that would look way better on that frame! Are you going to part it out?

I probably will not part it out until I am dead sure I have everything off of it I need for the yellow truck.

The color combo would look good towing the Mustang. haha

Next time your stuck out in the middle of Kansas, give me a holler. I was hoping to get down to Oklahoma to see some drag week but I had an important math test :c

Keep me in mind for the frame, drivetrain less motor, and the floor hump! I have a complete running truck I'd really like if it was 4x4...

What gas mileage does it get?

I have an '83 F-150 4.9L 6 that only gets 10, around town.

I think I want to upgrade to either F-250, 73-79, or 2000, to 2005.

What engine would be best, for medium duty use?

351?

I have never checked the mileage. I can't imagine it is very good though. haha

A 351W would be a great engine for one of these trucks IMO.
