Power steering on stock frame 53 F100?

I know you can put disc brakes on a stock frame, but can you put power steering? This is on a 53 F100

Ford has a power assist unit and there is also the option of going with a Toyota PS setup.

The reason I am asking, is my wife wants the truck to be easy to drive. What Toyota system works?

Midfifty 2012 catalog page 167. The Toyota PS box you need comes out of an early 80s 4x4 truck.

You can buy a setup from mid fifty: Complete Toyota Power Steering Conversion Box, 1953-56 - Ford F-100 Parts (That's not the only option they have, some has more stuff, some less) Check out the instructions they have.

Here is a good thread on used toyota vs the midfifty (ccp company built) steering box.

Here is a great thread with lots of articles. Starting on post #15 is a toyota steering swap article. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...-articles.html

Thanks for the links, I will read up on it! My goal is to keep the truck with the original flathead V8, but upgrade the brakes and steering.

Yes, I do some work now and then on a friends 53 with a flat v8 and it has the toyo box with power steering. I cant recall what pump was used or mounting brackets.

I will say that after driving the truck it is a real pleasure. Steers so easy you'd think the front wheels were off the ground, kinda like the 60s Mopars real easy to turn

Its easy enough to do, you may have to fab a bracket to mount the power steering pump.

Thanks for the links! I will have some questions about the steering column I'm sure.
