"3M"
Hi, I just did my weather strips on my 1958 Ford F250 which is a METAL TANK and I Used "3M BLACK WEATHER STRIP ADHESIVE" I did have to put some clamps on my weather strips till it dried but when it did it dried like cement and stuck to Metal Very Well. I Found it on EBAY but I have seen it at the Auto Parts store and even at Home Depot. Hope it Helps...

3M Weather Stripping Adhesive
I had the same issue and also used the 3M Adhesive 4+ years ago and it is still working great.
I had some small spots of weather stripping left over when I pulled it off so I used some Acetone which only took a few minutes to remove the "left overs."
3M is definitely the way to go.
Take care

Guess I better wait till it warms up to use it it's only 25 degrees here today .
I don't see any old residue. I did a have a new roof put on (2007 King Ranch) after hail damage and wonder if this was a body shop goof. I thought that they cut the roof at the two topline seams but maybe they messed with the stripping.

TOO COLD...
WHOA... 25 degrees... That is TOO COLD... I guess I take my weather down here in Florida for granted only 79 degrees, 5mph light winds, and a nice clear blue sky with only a few clouds. Hopefully it will warm up for you a bit.
