Usually the muffler is the source of the drone, I have a SPD Y-pipe and a flowmaster 70 muffler and no drone..

Yes, I used a 70 series muffler on my v10 with zero drone.

Sounds about right. Some folks have an issue with exhaust "flutter" at certain RPMs after going to an upgraded Y-pipe but as was already said most times drone is a muffler issue.

Stupid question.
Does the 7.3l have a t pipe too or is it just the v10?

Well, from what you are saying it should be the muffler. By the way, "flutter" is different from "drone", right?

How's the sound of the 70 series (compared to my Super 44)? Would you have a soundclip?

What's a "SPD" Y-Pipe and how is it different from my Banks Y-Pipe?

Alot of guys here have said they like the 70 series Flowmaster, some like Magnaflow...personally i'm thinking about putting a glasspack on to tone down mine just a tad and i really like how it sounds on my 5.4 V8 (whole different animal though) if i ever do i'll make sure to report back with findings...currently i cant bring myself to put a muffler on it just yet as every time i hit the gas it just sounds so sweet!
How's the sound of the 70 series? I personally like a deep and sonorous sound.

Yes flutter and drone are different, flutter is a sound that comes from the Y pipe area at certain RPMs, I think 1900 to 2300 or so. Drone is that horrible harmonic resonation that you get at cruising speed, it's been known to drive folks batty on long trips.

The SPD Y-pipe is offered through 5 Star Tuning and is a weld in replacement for the factory T-pipe, it is pretty much just like the Y-pipe section of our Banks headers, it just connects to the factory down pipes to make the Y in place of the T.
